Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in the Ninth Ward

A Night in Dakar


Features: Internationally renowned Philadelphia-based poet Ursula Rucker  with guitarist Tim Motzer; trumpet virtuoso Marlon Jordan; celebrated New Orleans author, folklorist and poet Dr. MonaLisa Saloy; and Choreographer, Greer Mendy.

Proceeds from A Night in Dakar will support Tekrema Center’s work to bring arts, cultural and mentorship programs to the residents of the Lower Ninth Ward and Holy Cross neighborhoods. The event, presented by Healing HealthCare, Inc. and CORE USA, will also kick off a one-year capital campaign to raise much-needed funds to repair the Center’s Burgundy Street location.

The Tekrema Center for Art and Culture is a not-for-profit cultural arts organization dedicated to the maintenance, development and perseverance of African and African-American art and culture. The Tekrema Center serves the community through the performing and visual arts, the humanities, and special events and programming.
