3 Holiday Tips for Your Mind, Body & Spirit

Guest Blogger Nikki Greenaway, NurseNikkiNola.com

NOLA’s Nikki Greenaway reminds us that one of the best gifts you can give is caring for yourself.  Here’s 3 ways to get started:

1) Treat your Body

Portion control. I mean who can resist the cocktails, cakes and casseroles? Monitor how much alcohol, sugar and salt you are eating, especially if you have diabetes or high blood pressure. Detox with a fresh fruit or spinach salad. Your heart and colon will thank you.

2) Treat your Mind

Feel free to say no. The holidays can make you feel overwhelmed and worn out. Family activities, holiday parties and shopping consume your time. When you are tired, your immune system works overtime fighting fatigue. When you come in contact with germs your now weakened immune system has no more fight. Now you are sick. Saying no is a sign of strength not weakness.

3) Treat your Spirit

Do something for you. By nature women are givers. The holidays are a perfect time to indulge in a little self- gratification. Read a book, mediate, get a massage or volunteer. Volunteering offers a double dose of spirit-lifting energy. Lift yourself by helping others.

New Orleans, have a safe and healthy holiday season!
